ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Projects of this size are never done in isolation. They regularly
call upon the support of people not directly involved in the project.
These extend from landowners who kindly allowed REMS survey teams
access through to the administrative coordination support of LHCCREMS
and NPWS. The LHCCREMS team have played a vital role in co-ordinating
private land access and assisting with the collection of data layers
to establish the boundaries of extant vegetation. Special thanks
must go to Sophie Powrie for being central to this co-ordination.
David Keith and Michael Bedward have established the template for
this form of regional vegetation mapping in work completed for the
South East Forests. The experience, tools and techniques used in
that project have been freely and generously given for use here.
The database compiled for this project represents many hours of
fieldwork by individuals working for land management agencies, councils
and landowners. Thanks are expressed to Doug Benson, Robert Payne,
Stephen Bell, David Thomas, Anne Clements, and SFNSW for the provision
of site data. The Department of Land and Water Conservation, Australian
Koala Foundation, Lake Macquarie and Wyong Councils have provided
vegetation cover data layers. Seven councils were involved in this
project including Gosford, Wyong, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port
Stephens, Cessnock and Maitland. Thanks goes to all those staff
who have assisted in co-ordinating land access, API and map review.
Thanks also to those who commented on the first draft of the map
including Catchment Management Committees, council representatives
and the RBG.
