Balloon vine. Cardiospermum grandiflorum Native to tropical Africa and America Invades moist areas especially gullies. It will also invade coastal rainforest. Mainly a problem on the central and north coast. Form: Climber with stems up to 10m long. Flower: Small and white. Summer to autumn. Fruit/Seed: Inflated capsule with papery membrane, 3 black seeds inside capsule. Control: For small infestations, hand-pull young and mature plants. Chemical controls are available. Cut/scrape and paint with herbicide. Follow up weeding of seedlings for 2 years. |
