Mile a minute. Ipomoea cairica

Native to tropical Asia and Africa

Invades coastal rainforest at times completely smothering the indigenous vegetation. It also invades dunes and adjacent bushland. Found along the entire coast of NSW.

Form: Trailing and twining stems.

Flower: Purplish with darker throat. Summer.

Fruit/Seed: Brown globular capsule splitting into 4 valves.

Control: Can be hand-pulled. The stems root at the nodes so the entire plant should be removed including the roots.

Chemical controls are available. Application by spray is effective.
