Dune onion weed. Trachyandra divaricata Native to South Africa Considered a major pest in Western Australia and has potential to become a significant problem in NSW. Invades dunes on the central coast between Wollongong and Gosford. Form: Erect tuft herb up to 70cm high. Flower: White with brown central stripe on petals. Late winter to spring. Fruit/Seed: Capsule red-brown to brown-black with seeds red-brown to black. Control: Plants usually found growing in soft sand so removal by hand is easy. Remove entire plant using a mattock. If the plant has already flowered, ensure any seed is bagged and disposed of appropriately. |
